Medical Students

Five Valleys Medical Practice works in partnership with Bristol Medical School to support the teaching of third-, fourth-, and fifth-year medical students. This plays a vital role in the training and development of future doctors. Medical students are always directly supervised by a senior or lead GP during every patient interaction. As a result, there may be occasions when several clinicians, including medical students, are involved in delivering your care. Your consent will always be requested before each interaction.

We also provide training for Foundation Year 2 doctors and Specialty Trainee Doctors/Registrars. These are fully qualified doctors who are completing specialist training placements through the Gloucestershire GP Programme and Bristol University. All trainees are supervised by one of the practice’s senior doctors. At times, another doctor may also be present as an observer for educational purposes.

Your support helps us train the next generation of doctors.

How you can help:

  • Please be patient with learners, as they may still be developing confidence.
  • Consider volunteering for teaching sessions if you are approached.
  • Share feedback, both positive and constructive, about your experience with learners.

If you have any questions, please speak to a member of staff or your GP during your visit.
